Guus Hiddink 'not expecting' approach to become England manager, reveals agent
Dutch coach has a wealth of experience in international management and enjoyed a brief stint Stamford Bridge, winning the FA Cup during his three months in charge
By Jake Watson
Former Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink he has not been in contact with the FA regarding the vacant England job, according to his agent.
Hiddink is a renowned coach at both club and international level and is likely to feature high on a list choice for the England job and after a brief, yet successful, stint in west London, he has long been linked with a return to the country.
However, Hiddink’s agent Cees van Nieuwenhuizen has dismissed any suggestions that his client has been approached with the idea of replacing the Italian or that any approach is expected.
"It does not seem apparent, but that is my personal interpretation,” van Nieuwenhuizen told Voetbal International:
"I have seen the reports on the internet this morning but I know nothing further. I have no idea where this came from. It comes completely out of thin air. I've definitely not been approached."
Hiddink has fond memories of his time at Chelsea and built a strong relationship with many of the players, especially former captain John Terry, and van Nieuwenhuizen claims it would be a tough situation for Hiddink to walk into if he was to become Capello’s replacement.
"During his time at Chelsea, Guus always got on very well with John Terry - a person who has much to do with the England team. It would be a strange situation for Guus to face in the future."
