Poll of the day: Was Fabio Capello a success as England manager?
The Italian resigned as boss last night and, although he oversaw a disastrous World Cup in South Africa, his win percentage was the highest of any manager in the past 50 years
Fabio Capello last night resigned as England manager with Harry Redknapp now the overwhelming favourite to take over his role at Wembley.
Many have welcomed the Italian's decision after tension with the FA had reached boiling point following issues surrounding John Terry's captaincy.
And some have stated it is a good decision based on Capello's seeming reluctance to gain a better command of the English language.
But, can Capello leave with his held high as a successful England manager? His win percentage during his three-and-a-half-year reign is the highest of any England manager post-World War II, including Sir Alf Ramsey, who picked up the Jules Rimet trophy in 1966.
Or is there more to success than a high win percentage? England suffered a quite frankly awful World Cup in South Africa despite a strong qualification campaign.
Having overseen a tournament in which the Three Lions scored just three goals in four games and endured a savage beating at the hands of Germany, will Capello's reign be forever remembered for failure, rather than success?
So, was Fabio Capello's time spent as an England manager a success, or a big disappointment? Let us know your views by voting in our poll and by leaving a comment below.
