Despite being stripped of the England captaincy by the FA, Chelsea defender John Terry will still make himself available for this summer’s Euro 2012, according to The Times.
Terry was forced out of the captain’s role last Friday without the consultation of manager Fabio Capello in the wake of the racial allegations against him, a move which fuelled rumours that the 31-year-old would walk away from international football.
However, the Chelsea skipper is refusing to make such a decision, at least until waiting to see if he is chosen for England’s rearranged friendly against Holland later this month. Terry is currently recovering from a knee injury, but should be available for selection.
The centre-back will have to wait till after the European Championships for his case to be heard in the race row between himself and QPR defender Anton Ferdinand, with the FA deciding not to delay their decision in removing him as captain.
England boss Capello has spoken openly about the FA’s verdict to relinquish Terry’s role and believes the defender should have remained captain until the end of his trial in July.
The former Real Madrid manager’s future is currently being questioned, but Capello still has the task of selecting a new skipper and will no doubt consider such a move in the match with the Dutch on February 29.
