Doctor hopeful Barcelona's David Villa will play for Spain at Euro 2012 following successful surgery on broken leg
Ramon Cugat was "very pleased" with the outcome of the operation on Monday and suggests that the Spanish striker will be out for around "four or five months"
By Robin Bairner
Villa sustained the injury in innocuous circumstances as Pep Guardiola’s side played their Club World Cup semi-final against Al Sadd last week, with initial reports suggesting that he could miss the remainder of the season because of the problem.
Dr. Ramon Cugat believes that the Spaniard could be fit in time for Euro 2012, however, and that the medical team were very pleased with the outcome of the surgery. He is quoted by AS as saying: "The medical team is very pleased with Villa’s operation.
"We hope that Villa will be able to play in the European Championship."
Moreover, the surgeon is quietly optimistic that Villa could feature in the Champions League final, should Barca get that far as they attempt to defend their crown.
"He will come very close," he stated. "I think he will be out for four or five months, but we have to wait to see how it evolves. It can go wrong if I give a date."
