Chelsea defender Jose Bosingwa has reacted to the recent comments made by Portugal head coach Paulo Bento, insisting that he has never faked an injury.

The 42-year-old coach revealed on Tuesday that Bosingwa had not been part of his plans during the Euro 2012 qualifying campaign after he had feigned an injury ahead of a friendly match against Argentina, in February.

Bento went as far as to claim that the entire team "saw what Bosingwa did" and called on the 29-year-old to take responsibility for his actions.

The former Porto defender has now classified Bento's comments as "false" and hopes the coach will apologise to him.

"On February 9, I was deemed unfit by the Portuguese Football Federation [FPF], as it can be confirmed by a statement which is still available on the FPF's own website," Bosingwa told Lusa.

"For the very same medical reasons, I was unable to represent Chelsea from that day until February 19, returning to action three days later.

"I have never feigned an injury, because that was not how I was raised as a professional and because it does not match the values that guide me.

"His insinuations are false and they question not only my integrity, but also my professionalism as a footballer.

"I hope the coach will retract his comments and show respect and professionalism, even towards the medical services which accompany him in the FPF."

Earlier in November, Bento publicly questioned Bosingwa's attitude and mental strength, comments which made the Chelsea player decide not to play for Portugal again under the 42-year-old.
