Fiorentina's Mattia Cassani targets starting berth for Italy in Euro 2012 qualifier against Slovenia

The full-back is eagerly anticipating Tuesday's match and is hopeful of being part of the starting XI in Florence, as his side look to secure place in next summer's tournament
Mattia Cassani is hopeful of making it into Italy's starting XI for Tuesday's Euro 2012 qualifier against Slovenia in Florence.

The full-back joined Fiorentina from Palermo in the last week of the summer transfer window, but has yet to make his first appearance at Artemio Franchi and he is keen to show the club's fans what he is capable of.

"I really hope to be a starter against Slovenia on Tuesday. It would be a great feeling to be wearing the Italy jersey in front of my new fans," Cassani was quoted as saying by Tuttosport.

"I am hopeful of featuring on Tuesday and really want to put in a great performance. I want to make a good impression on the fans.

"We have to take the right approach against Slovenia and make sure that we stay focused rather than try and secure qualification as soon as possible."

Italy currently sit atop of the table in Group C with 19 points from seven games. They have an eight-point lead over second-place Serbia.
