Despite struggling to start for his club side Manchester City, young winger Adam Johnson has been handed a first XI place for England in their Euro 2012 qualifier with Montenegro.

The 23-year-old has been rewarded for some fine substitute apperances for City with a start for the Three Lions against the Group G leaders at Wembley tonight.

Johnson has netted off the bench on three recent occasions including against Juventus and Newcastle for City, and his first international goal in Switzerland for England.

Rio Ferdinand reclaims the captain's armband on his return while Darren Bent's injury means Peter Crouch parters Wayne Rooney up front.

Meanwhile, Montenegro star Mirko Vucinic is missing from the lineup with injury, which could hand the Three Lions a huge boost.

England: Hart; Glen Johnson, Ferdinand, Lescott, Ashley Cole; Adam Johnson, Gerrard, Barry, Young; Crouch, Rooney

Montenegro: Bozovic, Savic, Dzudovic, Basa, Jovanovic, pekovic, Zverotic, Vukcevic, Novakovic, Boskovic (c), Djalovic
