The FA have confirmed Tottenham defender Michael Dawson has returned to the club and will not take part in England's Euro 2012 qualifier against Switzerland following a scan on his knee injury.

The centre-back picked up the problem in the 4-0 win against Bulgaria on Friday night and was stretchered off in an obvious amount of pain following an awkward landing under a challenge in the second half.

How long Dawson will be sidelined is yet to be revealed, but ESPN is reporting the Spurs stopper could be facing as many as six weeks out.

Such a lengthy absence would render the occasional Spurs captain unavailable for the start of the club's Champions League campaign.
