England defender Michael Dawson awaits scan on knee injury
Stopper likely to miss next qualifier against Switzerland...
By Chris Davie
The Tottenham Hotspur defender is set to undergo a scan after he went over awkwardly on his right leg during the second half of England’s 4-0 victory against Bulgaria at Wembley.
The 26-year-old was stretchered off in a substantial amount of pain and is already reported to be ruled out of England’s next qualifier against Switzerland on Tuesday.
Bolton Wanderers centre-back Gary Cahill replaced the injured Dawson for the final half hour and it is between him, Phil Jagielka, Matthew Upson and Joleon Lescott for the two spots in the heart of England’s defence in Basel.
The regular pairing of John Terry and Rio Ferdinand are out of contention as both are currently sidelined.
Dawson's club-mate Jermain Defoe bagged a hat-trick for the Three Lions in their opening Euro 2012 qualification game and Adam Johnson scored his first goal for his country in an emphatic victory for Fabio Capello's side.
