Belgium captain Thomas Vermaelen says his side's 1-0 defeat in their Euro 2012 qualifier at home to Germany was undeserved.

The stopper feels that the goal lost to Miroslav Klose was a needless one and a 0-0 draw would have been an accurate reflection of proceedings on the night.

He told Sporza: "The goal was not necessary. A scoreless draw would have been a fairer result as the Germans created few clear-cut chances.

"In the second half, we also created chances but lacked the clinical touch to put them away.

"It is certainly a bad result for us and I am deeply disappointed however we must move on to the next game."

The decisive goal came after 51 minutes through Klose after a Daniel Van Buyten mistake.

Belgium travel to Istanbul on Tuesday for a tough trip to face Turkey, who defeated Kazakhstan 3-0 in their opening match.
