Has Jermain Defoe proven he can lead England's strikeforce alongside Wayne Rooney?
Tottenham man netted his first international hat-trick against Bulgaria...
There has been a lot of people pleading for Capello to abandon his rigid 4-4-2 system for a more fluid formation to play Rooney on his own up front - as he did so often for Manchester United last season.
It has been said that the Red Devils forward needs to play alongside a ‘big man’ if he is to have a partner. Emile Heskey provided that role for a while but has now retired from international football, and with Peter Crouch and Bobby Zamora injured, Jermain Defoe was chosen to start up front.
Perhaps the Tottenham striker, who is still yet to complete 90 minutes for England in over 40 caps, showed all the signs against Bulgaria that the duo can work well together up front.
Defoe has been criticised for not performing against the very top opposition, so maybe he is still not man to start with Rooney despite his hat-trick? Or was his hat-trick simply a one-off?
Goal.com UK want to know if YOU think Defoe’s three goals against Bulgaria were enough to prove he can start with Rooney regularly for England.
Have your say below and remember to leave your comments on whether you feel Defoe has done enough to keep his place up front.
