Many of Les Bleus don't know the words

France national team coach Laurent Blanc is urging his players to sing the national anthem prior to their Euro 2012 qualifier with Belarus on Friday evening in Paris.

Blanc believes the aim will be to show allegiance to the Bleus' jersey after the disastrous fallout during the 2010 World Cup and has given each of his players a copy of the words, just to be sure.

"I have personally encouraged the players to sing La Marseillaise because I was almost certain some of them didn't know the words," Blanc said to Reuters.

"I think everyone knows the words to it, but everyone is free to do what they want.

"They know my way of thinking, though. If you know the words to the national anthem of your country, it is preferable to sing it," he added.

"I don't have many opportunities to sing it. I admit I don't sing it in the shower.

"But when you are representing your country, it's a pleasure to sing it," concluded Blanc.
