Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher is determined to raise his performance levels for Scotland to the same standard as those he displays for his club.

Although Fletcher has become a key presence in the United midfield, he is yet to quite hit such genuine heights for his country.

But the 26-year-old, who will lead the men in dark blue against Lithuania in their opening Euro 2012 qualifier this evening, is looking to change that pattern as soon as possible.

"There's no doubt that there's a situation just now where I'm playing better for United than I am for Scotland and that's something I want to put right," he admitted to reporters.

"The expectations of me are high, but not so high that they're not reachable.

"Maybe because they see my performances in a United shirt they expect the same with Scotland, but it's a different situation with different players. It's achievable, though.

"I know what the players in the Scotland team are capable of and what passes you can and can't play to different guys.

"My performance in Sweden was nothing spectacular. I wouldn't say I did anything bad, but it was a below average performance."

Fletcher is currently entering his ninth season at Old Trafford, having already made over 250 appearances in all competitions for the Red Devils.

MANCHESTER UNITED GOAL: Right place, right time - 1-0 United. Wayne Rooney finds himself unmarked six yards out to coolly finish past Pepe Reina after Jordan Henderson’s attempted headed clearance from a corner arrives straight at the feet of the striker. That should liven the action up on the field good and proper.
