Lithuania defender Marius Zaliukas insists that Friday night will showcase the biggest game of his career, when his country play Scotland in their opening game of the Euro 2012 qualifying campaign.

There has been some uncertainty surrounding the Hearts skipper's future, after he failed to come to an agreement over a new contract with the Edinburgh club.

But the 26-year-old looks to put everything to one side and focus on what he reckons is the "most important game" of his career, as his side prepare to take on the country that he has lived in the past few years.

The former Kaunas man's allegiance to his own country is in no doubt, as he hopes for a "sweet victory" over Craig Levein's charges.

"It's going to be probably the most important game of my career and I hope for a sweet victory," Zaliukas told reporters.

"They will be looking to win and will go forward all the time but we are prepared for that.

"All their players are a threat but we are not a bad team and we're looking forward to winning this game."

Apart from the two sides that will lock horns in Kaunas on Friday, Spain, Czech Republic and Liechtenstein make up the rest of the group.

"It's not going to be easy but we're looking forward to fighting with Czech Republic for second place," he said. "I don't think anyone can compare with Spain but we will see."

Concerning his future at Tynecastle, the defender admitted that he would like to remain at the club provided the two parties can reach a resolution with regard to his contract.

Zaliukas said: "I would like to stay but we have some issues and we are working on it."
