Tottenham striker Peter Crouch has dealt England manager Fabio Capello a blow by pulling out of the squad to face Bulgaria and Switzerland in the upcoming Euro 2012 qualifiers.

Crouch, whose hat-trick against Young Boys helped Spurs progress to the group stages of the Champions League, is suffering from a back injury thought to be linked to a rib problem sustained in the 1-0 home defeat to Wigan Athletic at the weekend.

Capello has good striking cover for Crouch with the in-form Darren Bent joining Carlton Cole, Jermain Defoe and Manchester United talisman Wayne Rooney.

Rooney ended his five-month goalscoring draught with a penalty in the 3-0 win over West Ham United on Saturday.

Crouch adds to the injuries sustained by captain Rio Ferdinand, John Terry, Phil Jagielka and Bobby Zamora but the England manager has sufficient cover for all but the worst injury crisis.
