England manager Fabio Capello has reportedly not approached Everton’s Mikel Arteta about the possibility of him representing the Three Lions at international level.

The Spaniard is eligible for British citizenship having lived in the United Kingdom for five-and-a-half years (and thus the option of committing to a British team of his choosing) and has previously admitted he would 'seriously consider' an offer should one be made.

However, according to ESPN Soccernet, the Italian has not been in touch with Arteta about playing for England, mainly because the process needed to enable him to play for England would take six months.

The report quotes a source saying: "As [Mikel] Arteta is not available and won't be for some time, he is not eligible so it is not an issue, and I do not believe that Fabio [Capello] has spoken to the player about it, as there is no need to do so."

A statement from the FA also suggests that Capello does not have the Everton playmaker in his thoughts, adding: “We have not discussed the matter as a policy as we have not been in a position where the manager wants to select a 'dual passport player'.”

England are in action next on Friday night when they begin their qualifying campaign for Euro 2012 with a game against Bulgaria at Wembley.
