Almost 50% of readers believe Jose Mourinho should return to Chelsea to replace Andre Villas-Boas

Following the sacking of the Portuguese, we asked you who should be the next Stamford Bridge boss, with a second spell for the Special One the most popular response

Almost half of readers believe that Jose Mourinho should be the name on top of Roman Abramovich's wish-list and return for a second spell at Chelsea.

Paddy Power has former Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez as the 5/4 early favourite to succeed the sacked Andre Villas-Boas, whilst current caretaker Roberto Di Matteo is 9/2. Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola is a 5/1 shot to leave Barcelona this summer and take the reins.

However, 48.69 per cent of those who answered our poll declared that the current Real Madrid manager - who looks set to become the first coach in history to win the Italian, English and Spanish league titles - is the right choice to bring success back to Stamford Bridge.

Lagging in second is Mourinho’s successor at Inter, the man who led Liverpool to Champions League glory in 2005, Benitez. The Spaniard has been out of work since his ill-fated spell in charge of the Nerazzurri, but 20.34% of you feel that he is the right man to take Chelsea forward.

Barcelona boss Guardiola, his future with the reigning European champions uncertain, is the third favourite for the post, polling at 15.04% to walk away from Camp Nou this season and pitch up in west London.

10.8% of readers reckon that someone else should be given the opportunity to impress, whilst a meagre 5.12% feel that interim boss Di Matteo will do enough between now and the end of the season to earn the right to get the job on a permanent basis.
