Over 80% of readers confident Manchester United were right to let Ben Foster leave the club for Birmingham City
Sir Alex Ferguson backed over decision to offload Englishman
By Mike Allen
Sir Alex Ferguson was right to sell Ben Foster in the summer transfer window, according to an overwhelming majority of Goal.com UK readers.
Foster had long been Edwin van der Sar’s No. 2 since he arrived at Manchester United from Stoke City in 2005, and was widely expected to replace the Dutchman once he retired — until a handful of errors saw him slip behind Tomasz Kuszczak in the pecking order.
Foster only made a handful of appearances for United during his five years with the club — although two seasons were successfully spent on loan at Watford — and so Ferguson allowed him to join Birmingham in the summer for £6 million.
Foster has been in good form for the Blues this season, keeping six clean sheets, and has relished the opportunity to play first team football, raising questions over whether Ferguson was too quick to offload the goalkeeper.
However Goal.com UK readers have spoken and firmly believe that the Man United manager was right to let Foster go.
An overwhelming majority of 82.35 per cent of readers believe that Man United made the correct decision and were right to sell Foster, with just 17.65% believing the young shot-stopper still had a major role to play at Old Trafford.
