All week you have been voting for your Goal.com Top of the World Cup, sponsored by Turkish Airlines — and finally the results are in.
And the result is that you have chosen Uruguay's talisman Diego Forlan as your player of the tournament, with the Atletico Madrid forward the overwhelming winner with more than 30 per cent of the vote.
The 31-year-old striker was named as FIFA's Golden Ball winner in South Africa, and you, the fans, have also chosen him as your player of the tournament following his instrumental role in Uruguay's run to the semi-finals.
Forlan was in magnificent form throughout the tournament as he scored five goals for the South Americans, including a terrific free-kick in the quarter-final victory over Ghana.
Coming in second in the Turkish Airlines poll, with 15.29 per cent of the vote, was Netherlands midfielder Wesley Sneijder.
The attacking midfielder, on the back of a treble-winning season with Internazionale, also scored five goals as his country eventually ended as beaten finalists in South Africa.
Third place in your poll went to the German forward, the young player of the tournament and tournament Golden Shoe winner, Thomas Mueller.
Muller scored five goals and added three assists in the tournament, including a double in Germany's 4-1 rout of England in the second round, and picked up 11.89 per cent of the vote.
Notable mentions in the poll must also go to the Spanish World Cup winning duo of David Villa and Andres Iniesta — but the people have spoken and it is their La Liga rival Forlan who scoops the fans' award.
