Goal.com UK held a poll on Monday to ask our readers how much current Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole is worth per week in wages, after reports that his proposed move to Arsenal when his contract expires at the end of June has been hampered by high demands.

We asked what our readers thought the England midfielder is worth in weekly wages, ranging from £40,000 to £100,000.

In the end, two wages stood out among the rest. The figures of £70,000 and £80,000 received 21.06 per cent and 21.69 per cent of the votes respectively, with a figure of £60,000 a close third with 17.54 per cent.

This valuation compliments the opinions of the Arsenal hierarchy, as Goal.com UK revealed on Monday that the Gunners are only prepared to offer the Chelsea player wages in the region £60,000 a week.

13.74 per cent believe Cole's quality is worth £90,000, but another 10.98 per cent are sure he doesn't deserve anything greater than £50,000.

Interestingly, the same amount of people that believe that Cole is worth £40,000 per week also believe the 28-year-old is worth £100,000+, with both answers getting a meagre 7.46 per cent and 7.53 per cent of the vote respectively.

This will not be news to Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger’s ears as the Frenchman is famous for his reluctance to stretch his self-installed wage cap. With Cole already on a figure of around £80,000-a-week at Chelsea, the midfielder's desire for his wages at the Emirates Stadium to match his current terms is a stumbling block.

Joe Cole’s representatives were rumoured to have met up with Arsenal at the beginning of June to discuss a possible free transfer from London rivals Chelsea, but the apparent high wage demands have stalled the deal.

Wenger has lost players in the past over his refusal to raise a player’s wages beyond what he sees fit. Famously Mathieu Flamini left Arsenal on a free transfer to AC Milan after Wenger and the player each refused to budge over wage demands when the midfielder’s contract was up for renewal.

But, if the advice of Goal.com UK readers is taken, then both club and player might finally be able to reach an agreement if they agree on a deal in the region of £80,000-a-week.
