Alvaro Arbeloa has reassured Real Madrid fans that the "warning" they received at Real Sociedad on Saturday has only served to make them more determined to win their upcoming derby against city rivals Atletico.
Carlo Ancelotti's men raced into a 2-0 lead after just 11 minutes of action at San Sebastian but were left dumbfounded after their Basque hopes came storming back to win courtesy of four unanswered goals.
Arbeloa freely admits that the nature of the defeat came as a real shock to the system, but insists that it has merely intensified their desire to make amends by beating Atletico at the Santiago Bernabeu on September 13.
"The defeat in San Sebastian was particularly hard because of the way it happened," the defender told reporters at an Adidas event.
"But we are now thinking about working hard. We have a very important match against Atletico after the [international] break with our people and our fans.
"We're aware that this is a warning and it will motivate us and help us see that we need a change."
Madrid's loss at Socieded means that they have already fallen three points behind La Liga's early pacesetters, Barcelona, who boast a 100 per cent record after two rounds of action.
