The Spain international has dismissed suggestions that the Blaugrana's successful cycle has come to an end following their trophyless 2013-14 campaign under Tata Martino
The Camp Nou side lost the Liga title to Atletico Madrid and were also eliminated from the Champions League by Diego Simeone's men, while Real Madrid proved to be too strong for the Blaugrana in the Copa del Rey final.
Nevertheless, Xavi does not believe that last season signalled the end of an era for Barcelona.
"See, in both the La Liga and the Champions League, we lost to the same team - Atletico Madrid. They are the league champions and runners-up of the Champions League," Xavi told the Times of India.
"For the last seven years, in Europe, either we were the champions or the team that had beaten us won the title. It says that you need to be the best side to beat Barcelona - even now.
"We were there in the league title race till the last match. If we would have won the last match against Atletico Madrid, we would have retained the title, but we did not. We were dejected, disappointed.
"There was a time in the season when we thought the league was already lost. But, we were given another chance, which we missed.
"However, that can never be the end of an era. As a team, we are still one of the best."
Barcelona last ended a season without a trophy in 2007-08.
