Sergio Ramos has labelled Cristiano Ronaldo a "born winner" as the Real Madrid star waits to find out if he has won his second Ballon d’Or on Monday.
The 28-year-old is the favourite to be crowned the world's best player ahead of Lionel Messi and Franck Ribery and Ramos admits he would be thrilled to see his team-mate land the prize.
“If I had my way, I would give it to him. There are a lot of people who think so around the world," the Spain defender told reporters.
“The statistics are there to see, and he has broken almost every record out there. Maybe this year he deserves it more than others."
Madrid's 1-0 victory over Espanyol on Sunday saw them close the gap on joint-leaders Atletico Madrid and Barcelona to three points after the two sides played out a goalless draw on Saturday evening.
And after Ronaldo failed to find the back of the net this weekend, Ramos revealed the Portuguese will have been left frustrated.
"He's a born winner and despite the win, he doesn’t feel like he did everything that he could because he didn’t score.
"He knows that it was a very important win for the team.”
