Los Rojiblancos' captain is not intimidated by the prospect of facing Europe's heavyweights next season and has his eyes set firmly on silverware under Diego Simeone
Los Rojiblancos lifted the Europa League in 2011-12 and followed up that success last term by beating Chelsea in the Uefa Super Cup and winning the Copa del Rey with victory over Real Madrid.
The club captain told the press: "[Diego] Simeone has managed to strengthen the team as it deserves.
"We are a champion team, we have won three titles in two years and now we have another title on the line, so we expect to win."
A third-place finish in La Liga last term means that Atleti will face Europe's heavyweights in the Champions League and, despite the loss of star man Radamel Falcao to Monaco, Gabi is confident of competing.
He added: "The goal in the Champions League is to get as far as possible. There are great teams, with great economic power, but the fact that they are two-legged play-offs is what we will try to exploit."
The 30-year-old came through the youth ranks of the club before leaving for Zaragoza in 2007 but returned in 2011 for a second spell.
