The centre-back believes previous criticism was harsh, and is eager to show what he can do this time around, while voicing his satisfaction with the win over Real MadridBarcelona defender Gerard Pique feels he was treated unfairly last season and is determined to prove his critics wrong in the 2012-13 campaign.
The Spain international received his fair share of criticism last term for his disappointing performances, but he is pleased with his displays in the Liga opener against Real Sociedad and the Spanish Supercopa versus Real Madrid.
"I had to take a lot of rubbish last season," the centre-back was quoted as saying by Sport.
"Therefore, I am pleased with the way I have started the new season. I think I have been playing well so far."
The defender also looked back at Barca's 3-2 win over Madrid in the first leg of the Supercopa on Thursday, and was proud with the Catalans' performance.
"We have a very positive feeling about the game and we are proud of how we played and what we have done."
The second leg takes place at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday evening.
