Zubizarreta refuses to rule out Barcelona departures

The Catalans could say farewell to several players before the transfer window shuts, while they have no intention of making any more signings, according to the sporting director
Andoni Zubizarreta has revealed that Barcelona are ready to part company with a number of players, either on loan or on a permanent basis, prior to the August 31 deadline.

Players such as Ibrahim Afellay, Marc Bartra and Jonathan dos Santos are being heavily linked with moves away from the Camp Nou side, and the Blaugrana are willing to do business with other clubs if the conditions are right.

"We like our squads to be fairly compact. Until the market closes, we have some interesting options to look into," Zubizarreta said at a press conference.

"We are working with some agents to see if we can find the best places for some of the players to develop their careers."

Zubizarreta then went on to make it clear that Barca do not intend to further strengthen their squad in the remainder of the summer transfer window, with just Jordi Alba and Alex Song arriving.

"As for further signings, we don't have any plans. We have the squad we want," he maintained.

The former Spain international added that Barcelona are in advanced talks over a new deal with skipper Carles Puyol, while he's positive about Cristian Tello signing an extension as well.

"The renewal of Puyol is well-advanced. Both parties want to come to an agreement.

"I'm optimistic about Tello's renewal, too. The coach counts on him and we expect to find a deal."

Tello provided two assists in Barcelona's 5-1 La Liga win over Real Sociedad at the weekend.
