thumbnail Hello,

The Albiceleste vice-captain has stated that trying to mimic the Catalan pass-masters is a waste of time, and that he wants to continue playing in central defence

Javier Mascherano has insisted that Argentina should not try to copy the playing style of Barcelona.

The South American nation are looking ahead to the upcoming 2014 World Cup in Brazil, and the ex-Liverpool battler feels the country need to work on their own approach.

"Argentina shouldn't try to copy Barca," the 28-year-old confessed to Radio9.

"There's no time for that, [Barca] have been working this way for years."

Mascherano went on to state that his former boss Pep Guardiola has taught him more than any other trainer he has worked with, and that he wants to continue playing in defence for the Catalans.

"Guardiola is the coach who has made the biggest mark on me during my career. He has many things in common with [Athletic Bilbao coach Marcelo] Bielsa, who is sufficiently skilled to coach Barca," he continued.

"At Barcelona, I want to continue to play as a centre-back; it's where I feel most comfortable."
