Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi & the nominees for's Liga Goal of the Season

A lively Primera Division season has come to an end with Real Madrid emerging champions, and with 1050 strikes this term, we ask you to choose the one that stood out
In a campaign in which all goal records were broken, is looking for the most stunning effort in the Spanish league season.

Karim Benzema, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are the high-profile players to be nominated, but Julio Baptista and Inigo Martinez also feature in our top five of the campaign.

We ask you, the fans, to cast your vote in our poll and choose the best goal of the Primera Division campaign. Here are the nominees.

Julio Baptista proved to be a true acrobat at La Rosaleda to score one of the most spectacular goals of the season in La Liga against Getafe. Malaga were playing against the Madrid-based side in front of their fans, and the Brazilian killed off the match with a fabulous bicycle kick which left goalkeeper Jordi Codina helpless.

It all started with Enzo Maresca, who whipped in a cross from the left to the far post for Salomon Rondon. The Venezuelan striker, who was not in a good position to shoot, left the ball floating in the middle of the box.

And that is when Baptista appeared, seemingly out of nowhere, to deliver a powerful, yet classy strike. 'The Beast' put the match beyond Getafe and delivered victory for Malaga, who would go on to secure a place in the Champions League in the last round of fixtures.

Sadly, it was a downhill slide for the former Real Madrid player from then on as he spent the rest of the 2011-12 season struggling with injuries. He did not make a single appearance for Malaga after the game against Getafe.

Real Madrid

Karim Benzema's opener for Real Madrid against Osasuna in Pamplona was certainly one of the most memorable strikes of the campaign. The attacker fired an unstoppable volley with the inside of his right leg that nestled into the top corner of Andres Fernandez's goal. There was nothing that the Spanish goalkeeper could do to stop the sensational strike, which resembled Marco van Basten's famous goal against the Soviet Union in Euro '88.

WHAT A GOAL FROM KARIM BENZEMA!!!! Ronaldo clips a cross to the back post and the Frenchman rifles an unstoppable volley into the top left corner! Truly amazing strike!
Benzema took advantage of a good cross from Cristiano Ronaldo from the left, firing a majestic volley which left the crowd stunned.

The Frenchman is the first player since Fernando Torres against Betis eight years ago to succeed in netting such a strike in La Liga.

The goal also paved the way for Madrid to win what looked like a tricky match in Pamplona, where Barcelona had lost, by five goals to one.

Real Sociedad

It is not that common in Spain to see great goals from long range, but Zaragoza's Inigo Martinez became a true master of that art this season by scoring two strikes from the midfield against Athletic Bilbao and Betis, despite the fact that he plays as a centre-half.

If one has to choose between the pair, the effort against the Andalusians surely takes the prize as it delivered three important points in the club's quest to avoid relegation in the final moments of the match at the Benito Villamarin.

Martinez controlled the ball in midfield and was given far too much room to operate. He then advanced forward before sending the ball flying over Casto Espinosa and into the net from miles out. Sensational.

At the age of 22, the Basqque defender has become one of the hottest prospects around and is touted to play a big role in the future for the Spain national team. He is also being courted by a number of prestigious sides from Spain and beyond.

LIONEL MESSI | v Sevilla

For someone who has broken almost every scoring record in La Liga, it is not hard to find at least one strike worthy of our list of best goals of the year. Messi was able to score on 50 occasions in La Liga, but one of the Argentine's strikes stood out above all the others.

GOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAL FOR BARCELONA!! A magical goal from Lionel Messi!! The Argentine receives a pass from Iniesta on the edge of the box and leaves Spahic for dead with a nutmeg before delightfully chipping the ball over Palop! Genius.
Against Sevilla, the Ballon d'Or holder put together a marvellous attack which resulted in a stunning goal. Messi played a one-two with Andres Iniesta near the centre of the pitch and received the ball on the edge of the box.

The diminutive attacker nutmegged Spahic before lobbing Andres Palop with deadly precision.
The efforts of the Sevilla defence to clear the finish were futile, as Messi's strike ended up inside Palop's goal.

Messi scored another fantastic effort against Atletico Madrid at the Vicente Calderon, when he netted the winner thanks to a spectacular improvised free kick, but his Sevilla effort edged into this vote.

Real Madrid
CRISTIANO RONALDO | v Rayo Vallecano

Cristiano Ronaldo is a man who lives for the goal. The Portuguese has demonstrated on several occasions that he is Real Madrid's most lethal weapon in attack, and against Rayo Vallecano he scored an amazing strike which decided a game that was heading in the wrong direction for Los Blancos.

GOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAL FOR REAL MADRID! My word! Stunning from Ronaldo! Mesut Ozil whips in a corner and the Portuguese takes the ball down and then, whilst facing away from goal, backheels through the crowd and into the net.
A corner kick whipped in from the left by Mesut Ozil was not cleared by the home defence, and the ball fell to Ronaldo, who controlled with his back turned to goal before backheeling into the net past goalkeeper Joel, despite a crowd of defenders in the Rayo area.

Every Madrid player rushed to greet the Portuguese ace, who managed to score from what appeared to be a speculative shot and net a decisive goal that gave Los Blancos the three points and put the club closer to winning the league.

Ronaldo scored 46 in total to break his own mark of 40 from last season, but few were more important - or more brilliant - than this one.
