Granada registered an important 1-0 victory over Racing Santander away from home, but Mario Fernandez kept the score down and almost rescued a point for his side. The Spanish goalkeeper denied Abel Gomez, Odion Ighalo and Dani Benitez, but could do little to save Guilherme Siqueira’s 89th-minute penalty. |

| Andoni Iraola ended up on the losing side as Athletic Bilbao went down 2-0 to Barcelona at Camp Nou, but he was one of the better players for the Basque giants as he kept both Cristian Tello and Pedro quiet during the game. Blaugrana centre-back Gerard Pique had one of his best outings this season - he played the ball from the back, defended strongly and could got himself on the scoresheet. Jose Antonio Dorado was the other outstanding central defender of the weekend as he scored in Real Betis’ 2-0 victory over Malaga and kept the opposition attackers at bay. Filipe Luis was his usual marauding best for Atletico Madrid against Getafe, sending in a number of crosses from the left wing. One of those deliveries saw Eduardo Salvio head in Atleti’s first goal in their 3-0 win at the Vicente Calderon. |

Angel Lafita was the hero for Real Zaragoza’s 2-1 away win against Sporting Gijon, as he scored the stoppage-time winner. Antoine Griezmann was in full swing for Real Sociedad against Rayo Vallecano in their 4-0 triumph, playing brilliantly down the wings and capped his performance with a goal. Andres Iniesta too, had a similar impact for Barca against Bilbao, finding the target five minutes before half-time and pulling the strings for Pep Guardiola’s side from midfield in the absence of Xavi. |

Arouna Kone was the star of the Valencian derby between Valencia and Levante at Mestalla, while Radamel Falcao scored one and created another in Atletico’s victory over Getafe, but the front three of Real Madrid - Gonzalo Higuain, Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo - gets the nod ahead of everyone else. Higuain scored twice to increase his tally to 101 official goals for Madrid, while Benzema’s Marco van Basten-esque volley is a contender for goal of the season. The Frenchman also played an unselfish role of providing passes and crafting openings for his fellow attackers. Ronaldo, however, stole the headlines as he bagged two goals and supplied two assists when he brilliantly set up Benzema and Higuain. |
