The former Arsenal star has taken the time to praise his Argentine team-mate, describing him as a player who gives an extra boost of confidence to any team

Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas has praised team-mate Lionel Messi in the wake of the Argentine's impressive performances in recent weeks.

The 2011 Fifa Ballon d'Or winner netted five times in the 7-1 Champions League win over Bayer Leverkusen in midweek, before helping the Catalans to a 2-0 triumph over Racing Santander on Sunday with a double.

"Messi deserves everything that’s happening to him. He’s a humble player, hard working, he loves football," Fabregas was quoted as saying on the club's official website.

"He’s different from any other player in the world. It’s a pleasure to play with him, having him in the team, because he gives you that extra confidence that a title-winning side needs."

The midfielder then went on to look back at his side's La Liga victory over Racing, and stressed that the team had to work hard to make things look simple.

"We put in a complete performance, always trying to play easy [balls], generating goalscoring chances and controlling the game. There is nothing easy in modern football."

Barcelona remain second in the Primera Division table, trailing leaders Real Madrid by 10 points.
