thumbnail Hello,

The Catalan club have received some disappointing news from their treatment table as the Frenchman could miss up to three games, while Thiago's remains doubtful

Barcelona have announced on their official website that Eric Abidal will spend 10 days on the sidelines with a hip problem.

The 32-year-old returned to Barca from international football with physical complaints after playing the whole 90 minutes of France's 2-1 friendly victory against Germany on Wednesday.

Abidal underwent a scan on Thursday, which revealed a minor hip injury which will see him miss almost two weeks of action.

This means that the Frenchman is expected to sit out of the club's La Liga matches against Sporting Gijon and Racing Santander, while he could also miss the Champions League return leg against Bayer Leverkusen.

Meanwhile, Thiago Alcantara is in doubt for Barcelona's next matches with a niggling tibia problem, but according to the club's medical staff, there is no timescale on when he will return from injury.

Lionel Messi, who will miss Saturday's visit of Gijon through suspension, will return to training on Monday.

Since November, Goal.com has been publishing exclusive extracts from Graham Hunter's highly-anticipated new book, 'Barca: The Making of the Greatest Team in the World'. The very last extract looks at Andres Iniesta's risky return from injury in the 2009 Champions League Final and how he was described by Wayne Rooney as the 'best midfielder in the world'. Don't miss it!
