Adil Rami was another important player for Valencia against Atletico, as he made a number of impressive tackles, commanded his area well and brilliantly kept out two attempts from Radamel Falcao. Sergio Ramos was the other most outstanding central defender in La Liga this weekend, as the Real Madrid man scored the only goal in Los Blancos’ victory over Getafe. Ramos was also strong at the back and helped build attacks from deep. Tito and Jose Manuel Casado were the stars of the show for Rayo Vallecano in their 2-1 comeback victory away to Real Zaragoza. While Tito was a force at right-back, Casado provided both the assists from a left full-back position.

Mesut Ozil continued to perform for Real Madrid as he called the shots from  midfield. It was the Germany international’s corner that Ramos headed home in the first half and he could have added more assists to his name had Karim Benzema taken his chances. Antoine Griezmann also maintained his run of good form despite ending up on the losing team at Camp Nou. The Real Sociedad winger played a few lovely balls before setting up Carlos Vela for La Real’s only goal in their 2-1 loss to Barcelona. Borja Valero inspired Villarreal to a 2-1 win against Sevilla away from home - their first of the season - as he scored the opener and looked threatening throughout.

The most impressive Barcelona player this weekend was Tello, who opening the scoring for his side in the ninth minute and could even have added a second goal to his name. The 20-year-old’s pace gave Real Sociedad defenders problems throughout as his vibrant performance was the highlight of a 2-1 Blaugrana triumph. Juan Albin and Fernando Llorente were the outstanding performers in Athletic Bilbao’s 3-3 draw with Espanyol at home. While Llorente once again found the target, Albin scored a stoppage-time equaliser to bag a point for the away team.
