Espanyol kept a clean sheet at home against Real Mallorca as they won 1-0, and Ernesto Galan was a key presence at right-back as he put in a confident display. Bernardo Espinosa was another brilliant player in the rearguard as Racing Santander held Valencia to a 2-2 draw at home. Real Sociedad destroyed Sporting Gijon 5-1 at the Anoeta, and both Antoine Griezmann and David Zurutuza were in superb form. Zurutuza scored twice in the opening three minutes for the Basque side, yet had to be substituted just minutes later because of a head injury. Griezmann was inventive throughout, creating the opening goal and scoring the fifth. Carlos Martins was in similar good control of his game and inspired Granada to a 2-1 away victory over Real Betis, crafting his team’s first goal and netting the eventual winner. Meanwhile, Mesut Ozil maintained his recent surge in form. The Germany international ran the second half for Real Madrid against Real Zaragoza, setting up Cristiano Ronaldo for los Blancos’ second goal and then netted the third in a 3-1 triumph. |
