Barcelona have announced on their official website that Jonathan Soriano has completed his transfer to Salzburg.

The Catalan club have received €500,000 (£417,000) for the 26-year-old and the fee could rise to as much as €1 million (£830,000) depending on variables.

Soriano, who passed a medical with Salzburg on Friday morning, has reportedly signed a contract until the summer of 2015 with the Austrian club.

The former Espanyol striker was unable to earn a place in the Blaugrana's first team despite topping the scoring charts with Barca B in the Segunda Division last season with 32 goals.

He was close to joining Benfica but preferred a move to Salzburg as the Portuguese club only wanted to sign him at the end of the season, when his Barca contract expired.
