On loan Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois eager to extend spell at Atletico Madrid
The highly-rated stopper joined the Blues last summer from Genk but is keen to stay in the Spanish capital for another season before trying to establish himself at Stamford Bridge
By Shane Farrington
The talented 19-year-old shot-stopper signed for the Blues in a big money move from Genk last summer but was immediately sent out to Atletico Madrid to fill the void left by David de Gea’s switch to Manchester United in order to get further experience.
With Petr Cech currently in possession of the first-choice goalkeeping jersey at Stamford Bridge, Courtois has revealed he would like to remain in Spain for another season.
“It's still only January and there is still time to decide on a second year or not,” Courtois told AP.
“I like Madrid and Atletico Madrid [are] a very good club where I have made many friends. Playing here a second year would be good.''
Courtois has featured 17 times for Atletico since joining them and will be hoping to continue to shine as the season progresses under new boss Diego Simeone.
