Goal.com Poll Results: Lionel Messi sweeps past Cristiano Ronaldo in December Head-To-Head

Leo eclipsed the Madrid man in December's Clasico and repeats the trick in Goal.com's Head-To-Head as we look at how the votes were divided and view some of our fans' thoughts

In our monthly Lionel Messi v Cristiano Ronaldo Head-To-Head special, we asked you to vote for the best performer in December based on the statistics, Goal.com Player Ratings and expert analysis compiled.

Only a handful of matches were played in the final month of 2011 and it was just as well as the big one, the Clasico at the Santiago Bernabeu, dominated the headlines and played a key factor in deciding the victor.

Despite Messi playing only two La Liga games in December, Goal.com readers were impressed enough with his contributions for Barcelona in helping the Catalans beat Real Madrid 3-1. The Argentine collected 8,445 (62.26%) out of over 13,500 votes for his displays during the month, leaving Ronaldo with just a share of 5119 votes (37.74%).

After a blip in November, Leo is back on the ascendancy as he now edges 3-1 in front in our Head-To-Head contest.

       YOUR REACTIONS
Tanvir, Madrid, on Goal.com: Lionel Messi, and I'm a Real Madrid fan. Reason: we need Ronaldo to perform in key matches instead of scoring useless goals against weak teams. We don't care about personal records.

Prinz, Lofia, on Goal.com: During the Clasico Ronaldo was rated 4.5, while Messi got 7.5... Ronaldo performs poorly when he meets top class defenders but performs good when he meets bad defenders. Messi on the other hand is marvellous always and stil very, very excellent when he meets top class defenders.

Vik, budapest, on Goal.com: Ronaldo only score against weak teams? He scored a hat-trick against Sevilla, how many did Messi score against Sevilla?? For that reason, I say Ronaldo was better in December. Yes,Messi did play better in the Clasico but he didn't score. If Ronaldo plays a good game against barca but doesn't, score people say he is a flop.

srk, seycheles, on Goal.com: Cristiano is a modern striker, with a powerful shot, good heading, free kick, penalties etc. But he flops in high-profile games, especially against Barcelona. Messi has better dribbling skills and gel's better in his team.

Cotes, on Goal.com: Ok..so Ronaldo is better. As if the world doesn't already know that... Barcelona have a better squad, hence why Messi looks good... Compare their International records...enough said.

Daniel Rego, on Facebook: Its funny how all Messi fans say that Ronaldo is not as good as Messi. Cristiano has won all competitions except the World Cup, like Messi, but he has two scoring records in two different leagues. So for people to say he's not as good as Messi, well then you don't know soccer, they are both great players in their own way

Franktastic The-Talent McPhoto, on Facebook: Messi has been better in the past few seasons but this season I don't see much of a difference, the difference may be between Barca & Madrid, however Ronaldo & Messi have both been doing well all season...

Abdul Ratif Rutuf Rajan, on Facebook: Messi so crucial in big matches but Ronaldo is very important against small clubs.

Samwel Chamgen, on Facebook: Ronaldo is the best, but let us give him some time and he will show us.
