The Argentine was granted an extra four days of leave over Christmas, but has now returned from his homeland and could feature in the Copa del Rey if he is deemed fit
Barcelona star Lionel Messi has returned to Spain after spending the winter break in his native Argentina and could line up with his team-mates in the Copa del Rey round of 16 first-leg clash against Osasuna, according to Mundo Deportivo.
Messi was granted an extra four days of leave over the Christmas period, but will now report to the club's training ground at 11:00 CET on January 2.
However, the 24-year-old will not train with the rest of the squad and will have his fitness assessed by the club's training staff, who will decide whether the Argentine is in good enough condition to face Jose Luis Mendilibar's team.
Barcelona, who are currently second in the league table behind Real Madrid, face Osasuna on January 4. They restart their league campaign on January 8 with a local derby against Espanyol.
The Camp Nou club progressed to the last 16 of the Copa del Rey with a 10-0 aggregate win over Hospitalet while Osasuna defeated Almeria 4-2 over two legs.
