Galatasaray closing in on £3.5 million deal for Atletico Madrid's Jose Antonio Reyes
After rejecting a move to Istanbul during the summer, the former Spain international is now keen to make the switch after falling out with Rojiblancos boss Gregorio Manzano
By Mark Doyle
It was reported last month that the Turkish outfit were keen on the 28-year-old winger, who has fallen out of favour with Atletico coach Gregorio Manzano.
Galatasaray president Unal Aysal has now confirmed that the club are in a position to sign Reyes, subject to coach Fatih Terim’s approval.
“The news coming out of Spain is correct,” he told TRT. “We have met Reyes and if our boss Fatih Terim gives the operation the green light then the player might be here tomorrow [Wednesday].”
Aysal confirmed that Reyes had turned down the chance to move to Turkey during the off-season but that he was now keen on the switch.
“Reyes changed his mind last summer but is now happy to have the opportunity to come to Istanbul,” he said.
“The good news is that the cost will be one third of the £10.4m Atletico paid for Arda Turan.”
Reyes joined Atletico from Arsenal in 2007, after a loan spell with Real Madrid.
