The Brazil midfielder is battling a knee injury, while the Spain international is recovering from a hamstring problem. Ricardo Carvalho, meanwhile, is still nursing a back complaint.
This means that Lassana Diarra is expected to play on the right side of the defence against Atletico, as Sergio Ramos should partner Pepe in the centre of the back line.
Madrid are at the Liga summit, with 31 points from 12 matches, while Atletico sit ninth, on 16 points.
