Real Madrid in Brazil to negotiate for Santos' Neymar - report
The Spanish powerhouse have reportedly begun procedures with a view of signing the young striker, for whom they are prepared to offer £40 million for this summer
Real Madrid officials have travelled to Brazil to negotiate the transfer of Santos forward Neymar, according to Lancenet.
Neymar is widely expected to leave Santos in the summer, despite claims from the club's president that the Brazil international will remain at the club for many years.
Real Madrid are understood to be frontrunners in the race to sign Neymar, and Brazilian sources suggest the Spanish capital club have dispatched some of their highest ranks to engage in talks with the player's agent, Wagner Ribeiro.
It is also reported Real Madrid are prepared to meet Neymar's €45 million (£40m) release clause, while offering the player an annual salary in the excess of €5 million (£4.5m).
Questioned by Lancenet about the alleged presence of Real Madrid vice-president Fernando Tapias in Brazil, Ribeiro was extremely coy: "I do not want to comment on that."
The positive relationship between Real Madrid and Ronaldo, who played at the club from 2002 and 2007 and whose marketing company, '9ine', has a contract with Neymar to help him find sponsors, could reportedly help the transfer go through.
Earlier on Tuesday, Neymar's father revealed that the player wished to compete in the Club World Cup with Santos in December, but refused to rule out the possibility of the forward switching clubs during the summer transfer window.
