Rafa Benitez has made it clear that he is not interested in the position of head coach at Atletico Madrid, AS reports.
Atletico are in the market for a boss because of the departure of Quique Sanchez Flores, and had earmarked the former Inter and Liverpool tactician as the perfect replacement.
However, the 51-year-old has other plans for the future and has turned down Atletico Madrid's approach.
Benitez enjoyed a successful spell in the Premier League at Liverpool from 2004 until 2010 and has reportedly set his sights on the managerial job at Aston Villa. The experienced tactician has been out of work ever since leaving Inter in December.
Atletico will have to turn their attention elsewhere in their search for a new coach, with Barcelona B's Luis Enrique and former Sevilla tactician Gregorio Manzano both in the frame.
