Atletico Madrid chief executive Gil Marin has claimed that there is an agreement in place with Sergio Aguero and his agent to ensure that the player is never sold to Real Madrid.
The Argentine, who was a target for Tottenham in the January transfer window, has been linked with a big-money move across the Spanish capital to Real.
But speaking to the media on Tuesday, Marin insisted that if Aguero does eventually leave Atletico, he will not join the club’s inter-city rivals.
He said: “Sergio will decide whenever he wants to leave and Atletico Madrid will accept the offer. We have agreed with the player and his agent that Aguero will not got to Real Madrid. Even paying the [buy-out] clause will not mean he will go because the player does not want to leave, and Atletico will not allow it.”
Marin also confirmed that Madrid had made an approach for Diego Forlan towards the end of the transfer window, but that the deal was not suitable to the club, and their advances were rejected.
He added: “They wanted Diego to replace the injured [Gonzalo] Higuain, but Atletico said it was not an option nor reasonable to allow him to go on loan, given his age and prestige.”
