thumbnail Hello,

A look at the Real Madrid star's best after Zaragoza strike at the weekend

With his distinctive run-up and incredible power to his set-pieces, Cristiano Ronaldo has quite a collection of stunning free-kicks. Nicknamed the "Tomahawk" or "The Ronaldo rocket" - he has been banging them in for years now.

The strike against Real Zaragoza was timed at 105 kilometres an hour according to the Spanish press and keeper Franco did not even have a chance to move

CR7 has scored a host of free-kicks for Manchester United and Real Madrid, although surprisingly very few for Portugal. Here are his top 10, in chronological order.

If you disagree or feel we missed some out please let us know in the comments.

1. Cristiano Ronaldo v Portsmouth (Manchester United 3 - Portsmouth 0, Premier League, November 1, 2003) Ronaldo would go on to enjoy taking free-kicks against Pompey. This particular goal was his first for Manchester United, a couple of months into his career at Old Trafford.

2. Cristiano Ronaldo v Europe XI (Manchester United 4 - Europe XI 3, Friendly, March 13, 2007) The match marked 50 seasons of European football for Manchester United and 50 years since the Treaty of Rome. Ronaldo scored United's third with an outrageous free-kick that gave Canizares absolutely no chance.

3. Cristiano Ronaldo v Sporting Lisbon (Manchester United 2 - Sporting Lisbon 1, Champions League, November 27, 2007) On the way to winning the competition later on in the season, Ronaldo struck in injury time of the second half to down his former club. Thereby ensuring Manchester United finished top of the Champions League group.

4. Cristiano Ronaldo v Sunderland (Sunderland 0 - Manchester United 4, Premier League, December 26, 2007) After a first half blitz on Boxing Day, Ronaldo would see United into the break in a 3-0 lead with an arrow-like free-kick that pierced the top left-hand corner of Craig Gordon's net.

5. Cristiano Ronaldo v Portsmouth (Manchester United 2 - Portsmouth 0, Premier League, January 30, 2008) On the way to scoring an incredible 42 goals in one season, Ronaldo claimed this beauty against Portsmouth. He opened the scoring on 10 minutes and then brushed aside Wayne Rooney to claim a brilliant second three minutes later.

6. Cristiano Ronaldo v Blackburn (Manchester United 2 - Blackburn 1, Premier League, February 21, 2009) Ronaldo produced a moment of magic on the hour with the score at 1-1 to secure a win for United. The majority of his successful free-kicks are usually central, this one was from a deep left sided angle but he still found the top corner.

7. Cristiano Ronaldo v Arsenal (Arsenal 1 - Manchester United 3, Champions League semi-final second leg, May 5, 2009) Ronaldo would only score two more goals for the Red Devils before leaving for Real Madrid but this was a crucial strike. Leading 1-0 from the first leg, Ronaldo killed off any hopes of an Arsenal comeback with a second goal on 11 minute with a free-kick that wooshed past Manuel Almunia.

8. Cristiano Ronaldo v Marseille (Marseille 1 - Real Madrid 3, Champions League, December 8, 2009) In 2009-2010 Ronaldo scored 33 goals, six of them were free-kicks. This beauty came in the Champions League group stages with plenty of bend and dip leaving Steve Mandanda groping at thin air.

9. Cristiano Ronaldo v Villarreal (Real Madrid 6 - Villarreal 2, La Liga, February 21, 2010) The Yellow Submarine were eviscerated at the Bernabeu with Ronaldo scoring one and providing two assists. Even though Real Madrid would eventually trail Barcelona in the league, CR9 was terrific last season.

10. Cristiano Ronaldo v Zaragoza (Real Zaragoza 1 - Real Madrid 3, La Liga, December 13, 2010) After the game Jose Mourinho described it as "one of the best goals in his collection". In truth this kind of strike does not really surprise us any more but it is difficult to think of a better free-kick taker in world football.
