Special: Every La Liga club's most important signing of the summer
We pick out one major summer signing made by each Primera Division side...
By Subhankar Mondal
Jakobsen was signed from Aalborg for all of £825,000 this summer and he could prove to be a vital signing, given his experience in Europe. Just 24, the Danish defender will be expected to give defensive strength to the Andalucians.
Athletic Bilbao - Mikel San Jose
The Basque giants have been rather quiet in the transfer market this summer and their major signing is a certain Mikel San Jose, who has arrived on a permanent deal from Liverpool for just over £2 million after a successful loan stint last term. The centre-back is just 21 years of age and is said to be quite a promising one.
Atletico Madrid - Filipe Luis
Atletico have a brilliant attack and quite a good midfield and now with the acquisitions of Diego Godin and Filipe Luis have a strong backline as well. The signing of left-back Filipe from Deportivo la Coruna for around £10m certainly looks a bargain as the Brazilian is one of the best in his position in Spain.
Barcelona - David Villa
'El Guaje' is arguably the best signing made by any club this summer and at around0 £33 million the Spain international is certainly a bargain. He scored on his league debut against Racing Santander and the world's most complete striker guarantees goals.

Deportivo La Coruna - Claudio Morel
Filipe Luis' departure to Atletico Madrid means that Claudio Morel will be starting at left-back. Depor are not exactly a great side and the former Boca Juniors defender, who came on a free this summer, will be looking to fill up that space.
Espanyol - Pablo Osvaldo
The Catalan club have made some excellent and pivotal signings this summer including Sergio Garcia, Felipe Mattioni, Aldo Duscher, a loan deal for Jesus Datolo and the deadline day purchase of striker Pablo Osvaldo from Bologna. The Argentine-born Italian scored vital goals for Espanyol on loan last season, and the club will be relying on his exploits again.
Getafe - Adrian Colunga
Colunga is no Roberto Soldado but he is a decent replacement. The 25-year-old was important for Real Zaragoza in the second half of last season as his goals kept them in La Liga and he will be expected to do something for a Getafe side that could struggle this term.
Hercules - David Trezeguet
The signing of France and Juventus legend David Trezeguet on a free transfer is certainly a huge coup for the modest Spanish club. Hercules are many people's favourites to go down but in what is essentially a more open league than most others, Trezeguet's goals will be vital for survival.

Levante - Juanfran
Juanfran might not be as good a player as he used to be but for a club like Levante, who need experience to stop leaking goals at the back, the 33-year-old could be a good signing. He runs down the right and will also help in building up attacks from the back.
Malaga - Sebastian Fernandez
'Seba' has arrived from Argentine club Banfield and the striker is expected to provide the goals that the Andalucians need to stay up. The 25-year-old scored on his league debut for Malaga but unfortunately for him Valencia won the game 3-1.
Real Madrid - Jose Mourinho
All but one major signing has been under the age of 23 but this summer's Galactico for Madrid is a certain Jose Mourinho. The 'Special One' was 'signed' from Inter, the club the Portuguese led to a historic treble last season. Madrid have finally got the man they wanted for the dugout - the man who is most likely to see them end their trophy drought.
Real Mallorca - Fernando Cavenaghi
Cash-strapped Mallorca's major signing is the on-loan striker Fernando Cavenaghi. The forward, who won the Ligue 1 title with Bordeaux in 2008-09, is on loan from the French side and is expected to be their main striker this season.
Osasuna - Dejan Lekic
The Pamplona-based side will be hoping for summer signing Dejan Lekic to give them the goals. The 25-year-old Serbian is their most expensive recruit this summer.
Racing Santander - Adrian Gonzalez
Adrian arrived on a free transfer from Getafe and the 22-year-old left-sided midfielder will be crucial for Racing this campaign as they will attempt to finish in a respectable mid-table position.
Real Sociedad - Joseba Llorente
The signing of Spain international striker Joseba Llorente from Villarreal for just over £2m is massive for the newly promoted Basque outfit. Incidently, the 30-year-old made his league debut for la Real against the Yellow Submarine and had a good game too.

Sevilla - Luis Fabiano
Luca Cigarini and Martin Caceres have both come in on loan deals while Mouhamadou Dabo has arrived on a free transfer, but the major "signing" for Sevilla has to be a certain Luis Fabiano. The Brazilian international striker himself had admitted that he was willing to leave the Sanchez Pizjuan but club president Jose Mario del Nido's manoeuvre to convince him to stay is almost - but not quite - a new signing.
Sporting Gijon - Sebastian Eguren
The Uruguayan has been added to the squad and his presence to the Sporting midfield is certainly going to help the Gijon side survive the drop, or at least have a better chance to. The former Villarreal defensive midfielder will bring experience and bite.
Valencia - Roberto Soldado
Soldado is no David Villa but he is quite a respectable and trustworthy replacement for 'El Guaje'. Soldado scored 13 goals in 24 league starts last season for Getafe and he is likely to be worth the £8.25m los Che dished out for him.

Villarreal - Carlos Marchena
World Cup winner Marchena has been signed from Valencia fora little over £2.5m and he is to fill in the centre-back slot left vacant by the departure of Diego Godin to Atletico Madrid. Marchena is 30 now but his ability to play in defensive midfield and in defence will come in handy for the Yellow Submarine, who will be fighting both in La Liga and in the Europa League.
Real Zaragoza - Leo Franco
Leo Franco is back in Spanish football and the Argentine's arrival on a free transfer will be crucial. Perhaps not one of the best custodians in the Spanish top flight, the 33-year-old adds depth and brings experience to a Zaragoza side likely to struggle for survival again.
