Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho wants to start again at his new club, and build a new team from the bottom up.

Los Blancos appointed the former Chelsea and Inter coach in the summer as part of their bid to bring Barcelona’s dominance of La Liga to an end.

Speaking in an interview with Spanish sports daily Marca, Mourinho stated his intentions to create a new Madrid all of his own.

He said: “I have decided to build a new Real Madrid from scratch, and I feel that this is a season that promises to be successful.

“To win, you have to play well, and if you don’t, you usually lose.”

Los Blancos face a tough task to progress in the Champions League following yesterday’s draw in Monaco, after being drawn alongside Milan for the second season in succession.

Ajax and Auxerre complete Group G, and club director Emilio Butragueno stated: “We're not too pleased with the results of the draw. We got some serious opponents from the third and fourth pot and could have had an easier draw."
