Manchester United target Rafael van der Vaart insists he will stay at Real Madrid despite Mesut Oezil arrival
Dutchman ready to fight for his place in the side...
By Paul Madden
The Dutchman had been trailed by Manchester United but wants to make a name for himself in the Spanish capital.
Following the capture of the talented German the Dutch playmaker has been tipped as the player to be sacrificed at the Bernabeu in a similar manner to fellow countrymen Arjen Robben and Wesley Sneijder, who left last season following the arrival of Kaka and Cristiano Ronaldo.
However van der Vaart, who scored Madrid's only goal in tonight's pre-season friendly draw against Standard Liege, is adamant that he will stay with los Merengues and is fully confident that he will play.
"For me there is no problem with Oezil arriving. I will fight for my place. The club has not spoken to me, but [Jose] Mourinho always tells us that we all have opportunities. Being at Madrid is very hard, especially now, with the arrival of a player of great quality. But I want to stay and I know I'm going to play a lot."
