Brazilian could be out for two months...

Real Madrid attacking midfielder Kaka could be sidelined for two months as he may have to undergo a surgery to correct a knee injury.

The Brazilian has been the subject of some criticism for a lack of fitness during the club's pre-season, and Real have confirmed that the player complained of discomfort before tests showed that the former AC Milan player may have to go under the knife to correct the problem.

A statement on Real's official website reads: "After arriving at preseason camp in Los Angeles and while undergoing the pertinent medical prior to training with the team, Kaka mentioned discomfort in his left knee.

"Upon further review and several complementary tests, it is suspected that there may be an injury to the meniscus, which could require athroscopic surgery.

"The player is on his way to Belgium accompanied by Dr. Carlos Diez. There he will be examined by Dr. Marc Martens, a specialist whose services were requested by both Sanitas – Real Madrid Medical Services and the player himself."

The club revealed that assessments showed the player's earlier hernia problem had significantly improved after treatment, but this new setback will certainly rule the £56m man out of the early part of the forthcoming season.
