Highly-rated Athletic Bilbao defender Fernando Amorebieta has attracted the interest of Spanish powerhouse Real Madrid with his good performances for the Basque side, if a report in Marca is to be believed.

New head coach at the Bernabeu, Jose Mourinho, is looking to add some fresh blood to his Blancos defence in the summer transfer window, and the former Inter gaffer supposedly sees Amorebieta as a useful addition to his back-line.

The 25-year-old centre-back is a product of the Athletic Bilbao youth academy and has developed into a key player for the Basque side since making his official debut in 2005-06. Amorebieta has since made well over 100 La Liga appearances for Bilbao.

Amorebieta has been called up for Spain's national side, but the defender has yet to make his first appearance for the Furia Roja.

The towering defender has an ongoing contract with Athletic Bilbao, but the Primera Division side could be tempted to cash in on their star defender if a good offer comes in this summer.
