Maicon's agent Antonio Caliendo has told Real Madrid they need to provide the funds to land him if they have any intention of concluding a deal with Inter.
Caliendo feels Madrid should offer equity that reflects what he feels is in line with Maicon's qualities, reminding them his man is not inferior to Cristiano Ronaldo or Kaka in terms of price.
Earlier Maicon said he liked the idea of joining Madrid, but added that an Inter stay was also welcome. It's now down to the clubs to solve the question at issue - money.
"A champion like Maicon cannot be considered below the levels of Cristiano Ronaldo and Kaka," the agent told Calciomercato.it.
"It's easy for papers to write headlines like 'I want Real Madrid' because every player dreams about that shirt.
"But marriages are often done with two people. Maicon is held in great esteem by [Jose] Mourinho, but also from [Manchester City boss Roberto] Mancini as he has always had great relationships with them, winning titles.
"But I have to look at the player's interests too, and, from what I can see, the Real Madrid president doesn't value Maicon as much as Mourinho does."
Caliendo's words suggest what has been reported - Real are struggling to meet Inter's demands which La Gazzetta dello Sport claim have been increased from £22.6 million (€27m) to £25.1m (€30m).
Asked whether Maicon's reported £5.86m (€7m) a season demands were verifiable, Caliendo said: "We have never spoken about figures. Someone is obviously floating them around.
"Inter and [Massimo] Moratti, we have no meeting planned with them."
