Dmytro Chygrynskiy keen on staying at Barcelona - agent
Brother and agent says the Ukrainian is staying at Nou Camp
By Paul Madden
Recent reports have linked Chygrynskiy with a move away from the Camp Nou after a disastrous first season with the Blaugrana and former club Shakhtar Donetsk and a handful of Premier League clubs had been mooted as possible destinations.
However Viktor has revealed that the player had talks with coach Pep Guardiola at the end of last season in which the Barca trainer reaffirmed his faith in the young defender.
Viktor also insisted that his brother Dima is happy with life in Barcelona and is intent on a long stay with the club. His current contract runs until 2014.
"When last season ended, Guardiola had a conversation with my brother. He reiterated that he had faith in him and that everything would be fine if he continued to work with the same dedication. The coach is happy with him and my brother is very happy at the club and with the city," Viktor Chygrynskiy is quoted as saying by Sport.
"He is resting now in Turkey and, if all goes well, we'll go to Japan to switch off completely. And then to back to work in pre-season. That's all he has in mind right now.
"It's cost Dima a lot to change the country and club. The first season is never easy and he has worked hard to learn Spanish.
"He has even made progress with learning Catalan. And now he wants to prove himself. Nobody at Barca or Shakhtar has contacted us to talk about it [a return to Ukraine].
"If Guardiola remains confident in Dima he will not leave Barca."
